GUMBO

A seven-piece band featuring the music of New Orleans including tunes by The Meters, Dr. John, Jon Cleary, Professor Longhair, and John Boutte, among others.  Due to their vast experience and talent, they always deliver the highest possible level in every performance.   "GUMBO" brings passion, artistry, and a love of playing in every note they perform. Great pride is taken in being 100% authentic in the music that they love to play; resulting in an exciting, exhilarating musical performance. 

 

Jeff Galindo Trombone

Born in San Francisco, California, Jeff Galindo attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts on scholarship after high school. He also studied with Hal Crook, Jerry Bergonzi, and George Garzone with grants by the National Endowment of the Arts and began free-lancing in the Boston area. His experience includes a tours of Europe with Phil Woods and Japan with Makoto Ozone as well as tours with the Artie Shaw Orchestra,  Irving Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and Robin McKelle. Jeff toured the world as the Trombonist and Musical Director with Esperanza Spalding. Jeff has performed with such notables as Chick Corea, Clark Terry, Joe Lovano, George Russell, Slide Hampton, and Johnny Griffin. He has also performed with Gunther Schuller, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Jerry Bergonzi, Bobby Shew, The Boston Pops Orchestra,

Jack Coleman Keyboards

Jack Coleman has been entertaining audiences in New England for over 40 years as a
solo performer, playing and singing from Maine to New York. He has also played all over the
country and performed in Las Vegas at Caesar’s Palace and the Four Seasons Las Vegas. He
has also toured the country as a member of one of New England’s most poplar show bands.
He is also a composer, writing the national theme song for the United Postal Workers Union
and has also had one of his songs played for the troops fighting in the Gulf War, entitled
“Freedom Isn’t Free”. Jack’s passion is New Orleans piano, contributing his style and
groove to “GUMBO”.

Jim Porcella Vocals & Percussion

 Jim began a jazz vocal career and has recorded seven critically acclaimed CDs, performed in jazz and cabaret settings in the Northeast, London, San Francisco, The Virgin Islands, and Vancouver. He was also the featured vocalist at Boston's Ritz Carlton and Boston's prestigious Bay Tower Room. Jim has been the featured vocalist with the Artie Shaw Orchestra, and also is the leader of the swing band "Bombay Jim and the Swinging Sapphires".He performed as the lead vocalist with the group Primavera!, a tribute show to the music of Louis Prima and Keely Smith. For several years he traveled the country with the show "The 3 Swingin Tenors" and presently performs a show with his daughter Renee Legendre called "Just the Two of Us" and is the lead vocalist with "GUMBO" presenting the music of New Orleans

 

Tom Herbert Sax

Educator, Performer, Composer, Arranger, Information Technology Specialist, and digital Production programmer. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music and Lowell University, including a master’s of science in information technology from Clark University. Tom is an active saxophone player in the Worcester-Boston area and participates with many bands as a freelance musician.

Alan Vaudreuil Guitar

Al Vaudreuil, guitarist and arranger for Gumbo, has spent a majority of his career in the
academic realm as the instrumental music director at Worcester Academy, and as an
adjunct music department faculty member at WPI. Al enjoys the challenges that the
music of New Orleans has to offer and relishes the opportunity to explore it in Gumbo!
Al is also an active freelance jazz guitarist in the Central Massachusetts, and performs
in many high school, college, and professional musical theater orchestras.
